Returning to Lancaster County

Hello, friends!

Now that I’ve finally had time to settle into my new college dorm and get a taste of all the communication classes I will be taking this semester (I recently became one of those classic college students who changed their major twice... well technically three times lol), I would love to share with you all some of my favorite highlights from this summer.
I'm going to start off the series with my family trip to Lancaster County over Memorial Day weekend. Once you’re done scrolling through this post, I would love to hear about some of the fun things you did during the past few months! :)

Motivated by our desire to see the rolling Amish farmlands once again and enjoy another show at the Sight and Sound Theatre, my family and I spent a weekend in Lancaster County, and it felt just like old times. The primary reason for our visit was to see the JESUS show, and the production did not disappoint. The show primarily highlighted Jesus’ role as our Savior and Rescuer, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see Sight and Sound’s creative portrayal of His earthly ministry.

One of the musical’s scenes that was particularly moving for me was when Jesus was walking on the water and Peter was boldly stepping out of the boat to follow Him. The moment Peter slipped into the water, the cast and stage team somehow worked together to create a live “slow motion” effect. As Peter slowly sank out of our audience view, Jesus reached for his hand and the sequence speeded up to normal pace. It was an unexpected effect that definitely grabbed our attention. I was reminded of how Jesus is always willing to save His children from the deadly grip of their personal fears and doubts through fixing their wayward eyes on His saving grace alone.

Along with theatrical entertainment, our family trip also consisted of an afternoon shopping spree in the famous town of Lititz, known for its lovely boutiques and antique stores. Based on our amazing lunch experience during our last visit, my family and I decided to go to the Tomato Pie Cafe again for some soups and sandwiches. It turns out they have updated their menu to include so many new, delicious vegan meals! I happily ordered a vegan vegetable soup along with sweet potato, hummus wraps. Needless to say, I was quite full for the next few hours!

Yummm!

Our Sunday afternoon was spent driving through all the covered bridges and taking pictures next to them. It was a fun and peaceful way to end our weekend in PA, and I look forward to the next time we’ll return to all of our favorite, memory-filled destinations.

Stay tuned for my next summer-themed post which details our trip to the NJ Botanical Gardens at Skylands Manor. It's one of my favorite botanical gardens in all of NJ, so I'm excited to share with you all the beautiful sights that we took in!

Till next time, Madison
